Jerin Nelson is a freshman at Simms High school who was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2022. He is fighting a type of childhood Leukemia and must continue treatments through May. He has dealt with meningitis and several other infections which can be quite difficult with a compromised immune system. Since he can’t be in public, he has been doing school online, but might be able to return to school next year. Even when he does return, he will have to be careful as mold, mildew, and other contaminants could be detrimental to his health.
The students of Simms Middle and High School did a fundraiser called Penny Wars raising $740 for Jerin.
On Saturday April 22nd, there was a fundraiser event at the Simms Lion’s Hall with a spaghetti lunch, baked goods, raffle baskets, and more, which brought in just over $34,000 for the Nelson family.
Many thanks to those who have helped raise money for this great cause. Donations are still being graciously accepted to help with medical expenses, travel expenses to get to treatments, and other expenses during his fight.
