Mandy and Shannon Knight were going to build their home in Oklahoma, but had building issues and decided to move to Montana. Within 6 months they sold their place, bought a camper and on the way they went. “We pulled into Augusta and said this is where we belong,” explained Shannon.
The Knights took ownership of the Wagons West Motel, Restaurant, and RV park in May of 2022. Shortly after closing, they had to travel and take care of family affairs with two losses to their family. They are really glad they have Wanda helping them by taking care of the place while they took care of their family affairs and learn their new routines. They came back just in time for the Augusta Rodeo, and had to take a step back and explain to everyone that they were still learning and asked for their patience. Things don’t always go as planned though, “a few months ago we lost our main cook, so I had to quit my other job and start cooking here” explained Shannon. Shannon has worked as an electrician, frame carpenter, and has worked maintenance at an apartment complex ” When it comes to working on the rooms, there’s not much I can’t do.”
Mandy said “We kept Matt and Lori’s (the previous owners) recipes that they had, but we are hoping to add some personal ones of our own. We are still looking to open for dinner if we can get enough employees.” Shannon replied “We have been getting more and more locals coming in, which is great. We definitely want more people coming in and trying our food.”
The bar is open 4-8pm 7 days a week. They try to keep it quiet to provide comfort for their guests.
Winter hours will be starting November 22nd and ending March 30th. They are Friday through Monday 6am- 2pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6am – 11am. Mandy replied “We have all 4 wheel drive vehicles, it will take quite a bit to keep us from being here. And if it’s predicted, one of us can stay here.”
Mandy and Shannon agreed “This is home, and hoping it’s home forever”
