Posted on May 22, 2023May 22, 2023 by Karen McIlwain

Join the Sun River Historical Society’s presentation and displays June 1st at the historic Fort at #1School Loop, Fort Shaw, Mt.

Ken Robison will share information on adventurers of Sun River’s John Healy and his partner and their secret expedition of 11 wagons journeying across the Medicine Line, the unmarked US-Canadian border.  Today this route is called the Bootlegger Trail and is north of Great Falls going to the Canadian Border.

John Healey built a trading post that became known as Fort Whoop-Up at the end of this trail.

Open house will be from 2:00 to 4:30. The informational talk at 2:00 will be on the historic impact on Montana history as a result of Fort Whoop-Up and the Bootlegger Trail. All the buildings are open for tours and the event is free.
